    I've owned this car for about 5 months. It's my daily commuter and I still find myself making up reasons to run an errand so I can get behind the wheel. I waited for the 2016 in order to enjoy Apple CarPlay and USB port. However, a software update was needed and after 4 months it's finally operational. That's been my only complaint in regards to reliability. This car will put you back in your seat, but in a very civilized manner. Freeway on ramps are my best friend. Passing is a breeze and the go-cart like feel during cornering is a pure joy. This is not the car for you if you want every bump and road seam to be sucked up because the car can be a little bumpy, but nothing close to punishing. If you truly enjoy being a "driver" than there is no other car on the road that is as well balanced and economical as the 2016 GTI. Some features I love are the backup camera, keyless entry/start, HID lamps, Apple CarPlay, versatility of the hatch, plenty of legroom for rear passengers, driver's assist (saved me more than once from a collision), cool interior lighting, bolstered seating, plenty of torque, superb braking and the overall handling during cornering. Some suggestions would be a power-hatch, foldable side mirrors with auto-tilt for backing up and a chirp instead of an annoying honk when you lock it with the remote (i.e. Audi). This car is just plain FUN! I read every review and watched every video I could find when researching. The EXPERTS who compare cars everyday for a living agreed this was THE BEST car on the market for 2015. For 2015: North American Car of the Year. Autoweek "Best of the Best" car. Automobile 2015 All-Star. Car & Driver 10 Best. Motor Trend 2015 Car of the Year. Yahoo Autos Car of the Year. NO car will give you absolutely everything your heart desires, but this hot hatch comes closest to anything I've driven in my 30 years.

    I have owned the car for 2 years and over 10k miles. Purchased new. Got the base model, S trim, manual transmission. I have owned probably 30 cars including new Boss 302, Mustang GT, multiple Civic Si, Ridgeline, Passat, we own a Caddy SRX, have had two X3 BMW, just you you understand my perspective.. I absolutely love this car. Not one breakdown or unexpected event. Interior is a 10/10. Nothing in this price class even comes close. Seats are as good as Boss 302 Recaros. Heated seats are standard, no one else does heated seats on base trim. I compared endlessly to a WRX before buying and test drove that thing twice. WRX is faster but thats it. That car is rough, clutch, shifter are like an old Fox body. turbo lag followed by big hit of torque whether you want it or not. The interior is a bad joke in that car. We owned a Crosstrek with that interior, I know. GTI is fast, smooth and refined. Interior noise is a little more than it should be. Stock tires are junk, spin in the rain all the time engaging traction control. Stock stereo is pretty bad but I am a car stereo guy so YMMV. I would buy another in a second. Hammering the car every day ( you just cant help yourself) I still average about 24 mpg. Highway, babying it, I have seen a consistent 36 for over 100 miles at about 70 mph. I cant see why anyone would buy anything else in this price range.
  • Outstanding hot hatch

    Having spent just under a year with my 2015 GTi I wanted to take a moment to share a few observations. The example I own has been faultless while returning many miles of driving enjoyment. I choose a Performance Package, S-trim with DSG, wanting to minimize my exposure to a few of the auto industry wide problem areas (Sat-nav and other $$$ electric options) while maximizing driving dynamics. What has impressed me is this cars wide range of abilities, being equally capable tearing around a back road as it is doing 1000 plus mile road trips in total comfort. Despite my penchant for driving quickly, the GTi has consistently returned an average of 31mpg in mixed driving while never failing to entertain. The seats strike a great balance of keeping you secured during hard cornering while allowing me to arrive fresh after many hours behind the wheel. Despite a long history modifying performance cars this is the first such vehicle I am tempted to leave exactly as it left the factory. I have no intention of tracking my GTi and given that it is my daily driver the chassis tuning seems to hit upon a great balance between performance and comfort. I’ve owned faster cars but the only two that were satisfying to own, entertaining to drive and offered some level of practicality on the road were my 911 and Boxster. Both of those offered much better steering feel and a much more focused driving experience to be sure. That said they obviously don’t come close to the economy or practicality of the GTi. The surprise to me was how much more refined the GTi is on a long drive compared to my previous Ford and Subaru hot hatches. If you are a performance oriented driver who also requires utility, comfort and economy in a single package the GTi is tough to beat.
